"Discover your uniqueness. Learn to exploit it in the service of others, and you are guaranteed success, happiness and prosperity." - Larry Winget

What makes you so special? What is it that makes you unique and different from other people? Harnessing the power of your uniqueness just might be the catalyst for positive change in your life. It has been said that each of us bring unique qualities and gifts to our personal and professional lives. Have you identified yours? This past week I have been given multiple opportunities to "exploit" my unique self. And it felt really good! In this week's Friday News Minute, instead of talking about my talents and gifts let's take a minute to explore yours.

The worst thing you can say to yourself is...

"I want to be like somebody else." You will absorb knowledge and wisdom from others. You will admire the work and service of others. Some people will have a profound impact on your life, but ultimately you will have to find your own voice to be fulfilled.

You will be turned off by some things too. I remember the "Be Like Mike" days and being one of the few that actually found the advertising to be a fraud. I kept asking "Why I would want to be anyone but myself." I didn't want to dress like Mike, or be a basketball player like Mike. Why? Because I'm not Michael Jordan!

To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best night and day to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle any human being can fight and never stop fighting. -- E. E. Cummings

In the quest of finding your voice and gifting it to others these questions should help:

What unique gift(s) did my mother teach or give to me?

What unique gift(s) did my father teach or give to me?

Which areas of personal interest mean more to you than others?

Which areas of professional interest mean more to you than others?

What things that you do cause you to have a feeling of timelessness and weightlessness?

What is it about myself that I know makes me unique from others?

What unique areas of my self do I want to explore further?

Give your self some time to explore each question and write down your answers. Keep a file or journal titled "Uniquely Me" for information, ideas and thoughts about your uniqueness.

And most importantly...utilize your gifts. Make a living from them. Touch someone's life with them. Fill that empty space that you may feel within.
