This week in our Friday News Minute, we look at eating healthy when you are going out to eat! If you have a lifestyle that includes lots of travel and nights away from home this FNM could be extremely beneficial to your health!

More and more people are eating out. If you are one of them, you can still eat well, if you make the right choices. Here's a checklist to make sure you eat healthy - anywhere.

Check out the restaurant beforehand if possible, to make sure that high-carbohydrate, low-fat meals are available, or that it will honor special requests. Most restaurants have their menu's on the internet so take advantage of technology and know your choices before you go!

Inquire how dishes are prepared and request that they be made without added fat and/or sodium. Most places will honor such requests. Remember...ask for what you want or in this case don't want.
Look for dishes on the menu with the words broiled, baked, steamed, poached, or grilled, in its own juice. A much better alternative to cooking in fats and unhealthy oils.
Go for extra breads, vegetables, rice, potatoes and noodles, but hold the butter, margarine, cream sauces and gravies. A good friend once told me to eat bread like it is a dessert!
Ask for dressing on the side, and use sparingly. Better yet, ask for fresh lemon slices and squeeze out the lemon juice to use as salad dressing!
Eat only half- to three-quarters of oversized portions, and take the rest home or share it. It is so easy to eat everything on your plate...but don't do it when the portions are larger than your normal serving size.
Eat the less-than-healthiest item if you really want it, but split it with a friend. That's what friends are share the desserts!
Trim visible fat from meat. Your body will thank you for this decision!

Andrew's "The Power of Asking for What You Want -- Jimmy's Secret" Book is now available!

How can a little five-year-old boy change your life? In the book The Power of Asking for What You Want – Jimmy’s Secret not only does Jimmy show you time and time again how a child asks for what he wants, but he also asks for his sister and his mom when they’re afraid to ask for what they want for themselves. The story is set in an undisclosed small town in the Northeastern United States and centers around Jimmy’s family which includes his ten-year-old sister Cynthia (don’t call me Cindy) and his mom, Lynda Chamberlin.
